How to use the Domain Tools (WHOIS/DNS/SSL)
What it does
The Domain Tools suite bundles three common lookups: WHOIS registration data, DNS records, and SSL certificate details. Together they let you check who owns a domain and when it expires, confirm that DNS records point where they should, and verify that a site's HTTPS certificate is valid and not about to lapse.
How to use it
- Open Domain Tools from the Tools menu.
- Enter the domain you want to inspect (for example
example.com). - Choose the lookup type: WHOIS, DNS, or SSL.
- Click Look Up.
- Review the returned records.
Reading the results
WHOIS shows the registrar, creation and expiry dates, and name servers, which helps you catch domains nearing expiration. DNS lists records such as A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, and TXT, so you can verify mail routing, subdomains, and verification records. SSL reports the certificate issuer, validity dates, and whether it is currently valid, flagging certificates that are expired or expiring soon. Use these together when diagnosing why a site is unreachable, email is bouncing, or a browser shows a security warning.

The Domain Tools suite is free and costs 0 credits. Tip: check the SSL expiry and WHOIS renewal date periodically, since an expired certificate or lapsed domain can take a site fully offline.
