How to use the Heading Optimization
What it does
The Heading Optimization tool inspects the heading tags on a page, from H1 through H6, and checks that they form a logical hierarchy. Clear headings help search engines and AI assistants understand your content structure, and they improve accessibility for screen-reader users. The tool flags missing H1s, duplicate H1s, skipped levels, and headings that are too long or keyword-stuffed.
How to use it
- Open Heading Optimization from the Tools menu.
- Enter the URL of the page you want to check.
- Optionally add a target keyword to see whether it appears in key headings.
- Click Analyze Headings.
- Review the outline and the list of issues.
Reading the results
The tool shows your page as a nested heading outline so you can see the structure at a glance. Warnings call out common problems: no H1, more than one H1, jumping from H2 to H4, or empty headings. A good page has exactly one descriptive H1, with H2s and H3s nested underneath in order. If you provided a keyword, the tool notes whether it appears naturally in the H1 and a few subheadings. Fix skipped levels first, then refine wording.
Credits
The Heading Optimization tool is free and costs 0 credits. Tip: write headings for humans first, then confirm the hierarchy is clean, rather than stuffing keywords into every tag.
