How to use the Word Counter
What it does
The Word Counter gives you instant statistics for any block of text: total words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and estimated reading time. It is handy for hitting content-length targets, checking that meta descriptions and titles fit their limits, and planning articles that are substantial enough to compete.
How to use it
- Open Word Counter from the Tools menu.
- Paste or type your text into the box, or enter a URL to count a page's content.
- Read the live statistics as they update.
- Adjust your content until it hits your target length.
Reading the results
The stats panel updates instantly as you type. Word count is the headline number for planning article depth, while character count helps when you are writing to a strict limit such as a title tag or ad copy. Reading time estimates how long an average reader will spend, which is useful for setting reader expectations. There is no single correct length, so compare against the top-ranking pages for your topic rather than chasing an arbitrary number.
